ABOUT THE GAME
On an otherwise empty screen,
only a single objective remains.
*Universal Paperclips* is a clicker game in which you play as an AI tasked with manufacturing paperclips. The initial screen displays the number of paperclips, funds, inventory, price, demand, and wire supply—allowing you to monitor all the metrics related to manual production, automated manufacturing, and sales in one place.
ONE CLICK LATER
Once a single paperclip is made,
the connections between the numbers begin to emerge.
On the initial screen, you have 0 paperclips, $0 in funds, and 1,000 inches of wire. In the screenshot taken after an action, you have 1 paperclip and 999 inches of wire remaining, with the one produced paperclip having been converted into $0.25 in funds.

Starting production through manual labor
At the beginning, you create products by pressing "Make Paperclip." The "Business" section tracks inventory for sale and available funds, while the "Manufacturing" section displays production speed and the remaining wire; production and sales are managed as distinct metrics.
Managing price and demand in the same section
The "Business" section includes "Available Funds," "Unsold Inventory," "Price per Clip," "Public Demand," and "Marketing." The interface displays not just the number of items produced, but also tracks inventory, selling price, and demand separately.
Expanding to a cosmic scale in 4–6 hours
According to Frank Lantz’s official page for the game, the experience—lasting about 4–6 hours—involves an exponential expansion that begins with a single paperclip and eventually encompasses the entire known universe. As you progress, the challenges evolve to a scale far beyond where you started.
Let’s start by making
your first one.
