ABOUT THE GAME
Move the whole board
and bring matching numbers together.
2048 is a puzzle in which you move number tiles up, down, left and right on a 4 x 4 board. Pressing an arrow key slides all the tiles in the same direction. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into a single tile with double the value.
DOUBLE THE TILES
Two 16 tiles
remain on the board.
In this position, the score is 104, with two 16 tiles and one 8 tile on the board. Keep sliding the numbers in one direction to bring matching tiles together and merge them into the next doubled tile.

Slide the whole board in one direction with each move
On PC, pressing an arrow key moves all the tiles on the 4 x 4 board as far as possible in the same direction. Rather than selecting a single tile, each move changes the arrangement of the entire board.
Merge matching numbers to create doubled tiles
When tiles with the same number touch as they move, they merge into one. Two 2s make 4 and two 4s make 8. The value of the merged tile is also added to your score.
Keep building numbers beyond 2048
The official instructions set the 2048 tile as the goal. You can choose to continue after reaching it, and the official mobile app descriptions also mention progressing to numbers larger than 2048.
